Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep... and... a Few Costumes

10/31/2014

My Dearest Darlings,

The time has come, oh Gwennie says, to talk of fewer things.  It's time for rest and some retreat, but only temporarily.  Adventure awaits in Neverland, but to reach it we must sleep.  Away I must.  For upon my return, such joy will I bring and share with you the very thing!

As of today, Halloween 10/31/2014, I am placing my blog on a minor hibernation / sabbatical.

I feel it's important to let you know because I committed to you and me that I would post on the Wardrobe Architect every week. However, in light of a few major commitments I joyfully have taken on, I must suspend blog posts for a couple weeks.  There are lots of great things brewing and I will have MUCH to share upon my return mid-November.

In addition to the sabbatical, I need some time to photograph, think, purge, and

process the last couple weeks questions and work of the Wardrobe Architect.  I don't want to half ass these posts.  I want to dive in fully and emerge with a wardrobe that I deeply love and that brings a sparkle of joy to my eye when worn.  And I want to share the process I'm going through with you.  To do this, a bit more time is needed than just one week per post.

Also, when I write, I devote time, energy, and resources to create a piece of work that can stand alone and brings you value.  Part of that value begins with planning out the photos to present.  You might not know how carefully I consider the photo composition, editing, and placement around the written word.

For my previous post on the Cacique Bra, I spent several hours, looking over the photos, thinking about what was the most important and what was really in it for you to read those.

I want to stand out as a resource and an expert.  To do that, requires thoughtful communication and a bit of solid planning. It also means I have to write some posts with them not looking as perfect as I'd like.  Sometimes I put them out there, learn from the experience, then improve on the next post.  I choose to approach blogging from a place of continuous improvement. I believe that gives you an opportunity to learn through observation and also to benefit as I improve. I hope that comes through in my posts.  If not, please let me know.

For now, I wish you the most joyful Halloween ever!  May your ancestors, guardians, and angels visit you in your dreams bringing you visions of joy, transformation and peace.

I hope you enjoyed my ghosts of costumes past. See you in a couple weeks!

My love,
Gwen

Wardrobe Architect: (wk 10) Autumn & Winter Wardrobe Capsule Palette, For the Love of Secondary

10/27/2014

Comments

I did not post my regular wardobe architect post on Friday because I wanted to think more about last week's questions. I like to be sure about my decisions (sometimes we can never be sure and must accept some doubt and uncertainty) and make ones I can stick with. It's easy to say yes, the separation of "men from the boys" if you will, is in the follow through.

So for the entire weekend, I let colors roll around in my head observing what colors kept coming up again.  I noticed what outfits I tended to grab from my closet and what colors they were.  I wondered, do I even have a "seasonal" palette? Or am I a 365 tropical skittles rainbow?

What Has My Attention Now:

Purple currently has a very strong influence in my life. It's taking center stage. Why? I'm not sure. I find myself quite attracted to it. Though, at the same time, I find it odd because Purple was my mom's favorite color for much of the 80's and 90's. Purple is often associated with the red hat society and the poem, "When I am Old, I Shall Wear Purple." So, I find it odd that the color so deeply fascinates me.  On the other hand, I adore the rich royal purple, almost blue you see all over the Mediterranean and Morocco.  I love the bright royal blue also popular in those areas, but it's the richness of the royal that really captures my attention.

Paired with Purple must be a Green (Neon Green or Seafoam) or Orange (usually more of a Salmon).  It appears I am on the path of the Secondary Complimentary Color Trio of Purple, Green, Orange.  I've noticed this as a popular choice in trendy fashion and athletic sports clothing, but it may already be on its way out.  Marcy Tilton did let us know that Paris is all about Orange right now in her post Friday about The Paris Coat.  Though, like Elle, I do find it odd that I'm completely disregarding my signature color, Pink.

What is Left Out

Since secondary complimentary colors are floating to the top, or rather have become the first colors I grab for in my closet or from my art supplies, then somethings must get left out. How sad, right?  Pink, Red, Yellow, and Blue are left out.  Maybe these are my summer colors. They do remind me of spring and blossoms. Whereas purple, green and orange are typically associated with Halloween, harvest, nights, and pumpkins.

Using the Stash & Current Projects

Having boldly accepted my color palette, there remain a few hitches.  Remember my philosophy of use up the stash and only buy to complete a project? Well, that will play into my Autumn/Winter wardrobe color palette significantly.  If I wish to be authentic and walk my path with integrity, then that me would choose to use what I have and find a way to play with purple, orange, and green fabrics already in my stash.

Already on my cutting table is a pullover fleece that is mainly navy. What I was thinking when I bought this, I'm not sure. Navy? Eeew. It's a nice rich blue, but I will spice it up with some fun print that accents in aqua and white.  That's not remotely close to purple, green and orange. It feels like an entirely different world. How will I be able to wear that fleece with my chosen palette?  A challenge I will eagerly take on.  I don't have the answer, but I will take it step by step always choosing to find a way to step forward.

Interestingly enough, several other projects I've begun to plan are falling into the "blues and whites" category.  Maybe those will be my neutrals. It would be really interesting and quite unusual wouldn't it? Blue and orange are great together. Cool colors always fun. But some of those colors above don't not pop with navy. I tried laying some next to the navy microfleece already. Dreary.

Well, I have given myself something fun to work on, eh b'y?

Now to you, my friends.
  • What color speaks to you this Autumn?
  • Is there a color you just cannot imagine life without?
  • What color invites your heart to sing?
