I've really enjoyed the depth of connection I'm able to make with you, dear reader, here on my blog, on Instagram, and on Facebook. In light of that, I'm taking a bold step. Take quick view of the video.
I've been listening to Seth Godin's book, The Icarus Deception, and it has really struck several chords for me. I also find it fascinating that the book was kicked off into being published by Kickstarter. Brilliant. That gives me tremendous hope. I've really enjoyed the depth of connection I'm able to make with you, dear reader, here on my blog, on Instagram, and on Facebook. In light of that, I'm taking a bold step. You know I'm a huge fan of "Bootstrap Fashion Custom Print On Demand To Your Measurements Patterns" (affiliate link). Since I've had pretty great success overall and raglans have been a little challenging to fit in the high bust area for me, I decided to try out the Bootstrap Raglan T-shirt SKU 56529 (affiliate link).
I'm starting to realize that most of my sketching is happening after I sew. Interesting. Lots of designing happens in my head. My magic place for sketching is over a meal or a cuppa, most often when I'm out at a restaurant or cafe. It's my "be alone in a crowd" time.
This was ridiculously fast to sew up. In fact, I made it one night and wore it to a dance workshop the next day. It doesn't call for any special hemming or finishing techniques other than turn and stitch. So, in the effort of checking fit, I kept it really simple and just turned and stitched triple stitch zig zag.
Notice where the black top hits my hips and the pink, bootstrap raglan is 3" or more higher. Whoops! That's not good! Well, it is if you're wanting a crop top where you never worry about lifting your arms and displaying your belly for all the world to see.
You see, it looks nearly fine when arms are not in motion or down. Sleeve length is pretty great. There are a few odd pulls at the higher bust area, but it's the smoothest raglan high-bust fit I've seen so far.
This business of being too short can be easily accommodated. Frankly, either the pattern is designed to be a crop top or it has a calculation error. To fix it, I'll slash horizontally, add length, and re-true the seams. SUPER easy. Especially for having such a decent T-shirt fit. This definitely feels like a base or block to work from.
Even the back is pretty decent. Though, one won't truly see the swayback fit until the top is lengthened.
Hello belly! Easy to move in this top. Great for exercise or dance. Though, unlikely to be worn for a basic T-shirt until I lengthen it. I will likely use this to compare against the Jalie 3245 raglan and make a combination of the two.
I've already used it to compare for fit (see instagram photo embedded below) on the Sew House Seven Toaster Sweater #1 as part of Kelly Hogaboom's Sew Along. I'll be mostly posting photos to instagram for the Sew House Seven Toaster Sew Along, rather than compiling a large blog post. I'm really enjoying the smaller, more frequent bites of interaction and connection with the lovely #sewcialists community on Instagram. So, I'm trying things a different way for this Sew Along. Even with this being a not so great fit in the length, I'm really excited by the opportunities this will open up.
