The University of Washington is known for its gorgeous old buildings and the W shaped planting of cherry blossoms in “The Quad”, the center of 4 buildings. It’s a long walk across, but worth making the trip, especially during the spring when the trees are in bloom. So, this year after a Social Media Breakfast event, I popped over to take some photos. The hardest parts were a) finding parking that wasn’t 10+ blocks away or $15 and b) it was darn cold! But, I braved the day anyway. There were lots of students out and about, so it was a challenge to capture clean shots of the full scene. But, my thing usually isn’t an entire scene or landscape, it’s usually the findings captured with a macro. On this post, you’ll see several of my “fallen one’s” captured in the depths of the grass as well as the blossoms that grow off the sides and bottom of the trunk rather than off of a tall, high branch. The cool part about these trees is that they are > 100 years old. Some are rotting from the inside out and it’s always a big “to do” about removing old/damaged trees. When I was at UW, many students talked about protesting and “The Daily” wrote articles about the trees. They have much history. When I look at them, they make me think of fairies and gnomes prancing about at night or when no one else is looking.
