Salsa II Choreography Class, November Performance & Dance Top

I loved the last Salsa II Choreography class so much that I jumped right into the next one. This turned out to be a totally different group of people with a few of us from the last class.  What fun they all were!

I also picked a different dance partner so I could challenge myself and learn to follow his lead as well. I picked a winner!  Ankit is a wonderful man who is patient, devoted, and eager to perfect his dancing. I really enjoyed getting to know him and dancing with him. There was one night we practiced until nearly midnight after everyone else in class had gone home!  Now that's dedication.  Plus, we had several group practices and everyone there was eager to be and do their very best. I really enjoyed sharing time and dancing with everyone.

The way this class works is you practice 1 time a week for 4 weeks, then perform at the practica for the rest of the studio. To be unified, we all agree on colors to wear with our instructors. We ended up going with Bright Pink shirts for the ladies and Pale Pink button up's with black bow ties for the men. It was a very classy look!

I didn't have any pink shirts in my wardrobe.  You're shocked, right? Pink is my signature color, just like Elle Woods. Well, I do have pink shirts, but they're T-shirts. So, off to my Bootstrap Patterns I went.  I decided to make a shirt version of the red dress I made for the last performance.

To make this shirt unique from the red dress, I chose one of the free Bootstrap Fashion sleeves.  To account for the armscye measurements they ask, I simply measured my red dress armscye front, back and combo and used those values. That was a bit of a gamble because there are no instructions on how to measure for this. But it worked perfectly!  The sleeve set into the armscye exactly right. Whew!

I did choose to to go totally free and not add seam allowances. But if I were in a bigger hurry, I would have paid the 50 cents for those seam allowances. Think about it. If your hourly rate is say, $20, then $0.50 (or 50 Cents) works out to be 1.5 minutes. That's 90 seconds people. Can you draft seam allowances in 90 seconds? Can you even cut it out in 90 seconds? I'm good, but I'm not a machine. So, next time, remember that it's worth the half dollar investment to purchase those seam allowances.

Because nylon-lycra aka spandex is so fiddly and slippery, I kept the pleats pinned while working with the sleeve.

Isn't that a lovely looking sleeve?

I generally don't accentuate my shoulders since years of swimming built them up. So I wasn't sure if this style of sleeve would make my shoulders and biceps look larger. Surprisingly, they look quite lovely, especially done in a brighter pink.

I also added a band of hot pink to act as a faux waist band. I like how that draws the eye to the waist then back out again.

The one thing I'm not fond of is how this fabric clings to every blessed curve. Really? My panty lines are that visible even with my kiss off compression leggings? These are the leggings I pachted at the bum. See, you can't even tell where the lips are. ;)

I also serged the edges with 1 thread of wooly nylon. That looks ok, but not as finished as I'd like.
