Being that I am a plus size woman with curves that make coastal Highway 101 jealous, it is rare that I find a piece of yoga dance or other activewear available off-the-shelf that first of all fits and then second of all is even cute or non-black, and that's the reason why I sew.
I've gained weight of the last year or so because of several injuries and stress. I am working my way back toward health through activities like yoga, dance, walking and some awesome Tracy Anderson This means that none of my former activewear fits. And everything I'm finding online or in the stores won't fit In order to return my body back to its natural healthy weight I need clothing that fits me well, I feel comfortable in, and I feel cute it. No exceptions.
Sharing these photos with you is an act of I'm not particularly fond of some aspects of my body, but thanks to Jan Bones class on the paper tape dress form, I've come to appreciate where I am right now.
In the photos above and below you will see the Jan Bones sports bra pattern that I recently blogged and my very first pair of yoga pants tha I discovered that T-shirts get in the way when I do yoga and I would much rather do yoga in a tank top or sports bra and yoga pants in the comfort of my own home.
The yoga pants are a copy and modification of a pair of Champion pants I bought from target years ago. For my version I made the following mods
- added links to the back and front of the crotch depth
- I did not finish the hems with anything other than a search
- I added two darts in the back of the pants.
There's a little bit of extra fabric in the front belly area. I may consider pulling that out of my next pair. But I do like the high waist except for the fact that it rolls as I do some exercises. I would much rather re-adjust this than have it be too short and show off my underwear.
I finished these pants much earlier this summer, but just finally got around to photographing them to share I was so excited about these and how well they work for me, probably worn them that I bought fabric for this on the Portland shopping trip a few we I'm really excited to work with the fabric so I can't wait to see how they turn out. Until the next time, my darlings! Have a lovely weekend. go try some yoga.
