I don't often talk of my performing arts pursuits here, but usually on She's The Golden Egg, my voiceover website. But, in light of the fun challenge my friend & I are doing, I thought you'd appreciate a break from the norm.
I've sung my whole life. Sung in choirs from elementary to adult life, cars, showers, and I love to sing to entertain myself while doing mindless chores, including my dish washing duties while working in the deli of a well known chain store. I've sung in Spanish, Swedish, Italian, and would love to learn a few good French songs.
I have been the lead singer in a couple bands. (I even made my costume to perform in for one of the bands).
I love the look that many people have on their faces when I sing. It's a gift that I need to make more use of. As a way to push myself and explore my vocal range, I've been posting occasional "mini videos" of songs that I love or inspire me. I also like singing in character voices. I like to ponder things like, "How long can one sing in character?" or "How realistic do I sound when you look at me and hear the character's voice vs. when I use a puppet."
My friend Karianne and I love to sing and often choose similar songs. We met on the Seattle Social Media scene and did some Karaoke while she was still on the West Coast. She now is a New Yorker, spending her days exploring the wilds of Manhattan, lucky girl.
One day, she expressed how much she loved the mini music videos I was posting. An thus, the idea for our SingChallenge was born.
The idea like playing catch, only with a song. Since you have only 15 sec, one person sings a phrase from a song, then the next person picks it up. You volley, or toss, the song back and forth until it's complete or one person changes songs entirely. Below is the start of us singing, Corinne Bailey Rae's "Put Your Records On".
What songs would you like to hear us sing? Better yet - wanna join us? You don't have to sing, you could play an instrument or whistle. Get creative. Stretch yourself. What or who inspires you?
