What's Happening October 2016

Oh my goodness, you guys! It has been a whirlwind of an Autumn this year. Since I finished my Halloween Costume of the Goddess Nike, it has been wild and busy.  Here's what's been going on.

Strappy Mesh-Insert Version of My Dance Top

This is the Uber Sexy version of my Dance Top. For this version, I adapted my Rashguard lower and dance top bra/upper. I wanted to see if that would help me eliminate the gathering at side bust and funny draglines which occur in my TNT dance top version.

What's hilarious is that the revealing is so subtle that some don't even notice, whereas others forget I have eyes or even glasses. Bwa ha ha. I LOVE Power Mesh now. Power Mesh is a lighter weight support than Power Net. So, in this top, I'm basically held in place just like wearing a sports bra. I have the look of a low cut top, but ain't nothin goin anywhere.   I wondered if my girls would settle toward the center a little, but I'm set quite wide apart at the bridge and since they're all natural, they love to hang out in my armpits anyway. So that's working in my favor on this top!

My friend Elise saw me wear this at a dance congress and teased me, "Oh girl, put those away!"  Ha ha ha! I think my dance partners must spend part of their time dancing with me wondering and waiting for the move which will cause a wardrobe malfunction.

I have more I'd like to play around with this styling. Until then, it's a great black top to add to my wardrobe so that all my wild pants can stand out.

The Goddess Nike Halloween Salsa Dancing Costume

The full costume from concept to "stage" or party was such a treat to share on instagram. If you'd like to watch any of the helpful tips and tricks I learned, please look up the tag #ggdancehalloweencostume (this link will take you to instagram).

I hand drafted and drew this chest icon in the idea that Nike was not only able to manifest her wings from the design stored on her chest (think carebears) but also she could manifest a cup of flames to give to the victorious upon arrival at the battlefield or at the finish line.  before this, I'd never done any applique on knits and basically taught myself along the way with a small amount of pointers from one of the forums I use.  I love applique so much now that I'm thinking of ways I can use it on other things. SUPER exciting! I think that was my favorite part.

I also took a ready to wear underwire bra and sewed it into the dress so I could have some decent support while dancing and have my girls in a nice shape rather than smooshed into a sports bra.  Pretty pleased with the outcome there too. This was my first attempt at doing so and I'm glad I tried it on a clearance bra first!

Repairing a Hole in Compression Lycra with a Kiss Patch

Lips are my signature. Out of all the drawings posted on the wall in my elementary classes, Mom could always pick out my drawings by the big red lips on every character. I continued the tradition by fixing a hole on bum (that damage happened on the inagural wearing of these compression leggings) with a kiss patch of self-same fabric and a bit of self-adheasive, washaway stabilizer. Kiss My Arse if you're looking that close to see the patch! Ha ha ha!

Working on Fraternal Twin Sports Bras for Dance Team

Taking my TNT dance top, which is a total mash-up by now of 5 patterns or more and only using the bra portion, I'm making up some sports bras to see how I like the style as bra only.  I'm also testing some different elastics.

Create Kids Couture Viveca Top

For months now, I've been hearing and seeing quite the buzz from the Professional Dance & Skating Seamstresses about the Create Kids Couture patterns and how popular they are with their clients.

I thought I'd give a couple patterns a try. First up, I made the Viveca Top. I like it alright. It's not as flattering as I thought it would be. But it's something different to wear to class and it goes with the Jalie Sports Bra, Bootstrap Leggings and Kwik Sew skirt I made so that's something fun!

I did go down a size and I curved in the waist more than the pattern. However, it's REALLY long compared to my torso. So I end up with a large wad of fabric at the belly. If you're long and rectangular, this can be fun. If you're curvy and short waisted like me, maybe not so much. Or try shortening it.

I would also change the front to look less like a muscle shirt and more feminine in some way. The wide shoulder and low armscyes remind me of chopped up 1980's T-shirts like Brandon wore in The Goonies. Hot on him, not on me. ;)
